Artist's Statement:

Colette Hazelwood has been designing and making contemporary jewellery for six years, a leader in her field and a well-known name and personality on the fashion scene as well as in the British craft and design world. 'Art you wear', was how fashion journalist Denise Watson described her work in the Manchester Evening News just prior to Colette's attendance at Chelsea Craft Fair.

She shows and sells her work in galleries and boutiques around the country and has exhibited in Sydney, Singapore, Brussels, Auckland and New York. She has work in two public collections, MIMA and the Grundy Art Gallery, and was recently commissioned by the BBC for the Royal Television Society Awards.

She works in non-precious and precious materials, and has successfully managed to promote alternatives to gold bands and silver chains by designing items that would not normally be seen as wearable jewellery by many people; silver 'nit comb' necklaces, gold 'barbed wire' bracelets, 'glass fuse' necklaces and 'electrical resistor' earrings have all proved to be popular pieces. The variety of her work won her a place in the regional final of the Shell Livewire Young Entrepreneur 2002, and she has been featured in the book New Directions in Jewellery.
