Artist's Statement:

Sarah- May Matthews makes mosaics in ceramic, mirror and glass beads. Pieces are made for sale, to commission, and she is experienced in delivering workshops and facilitating community groups.

She was born last century into a family of artists and designers. She boasts the Yorkshire painter Owen Bowen as her great-grandfather. Both her parents are artists. She really just can't help it!

An interest in her surroundings and in colour, form and texture led to her experimenting with graphics, textiles and fashion, woodwork (briefly), interior design, and finally mosaic. Garden design would perhaps be another interest, if she knew anything at all about plants. Structural garden design, and of course mosaics for outdoors are more her forte.

She has also been involved in other artistic pursuits such as acapella singing. She failed miserably to learn to play the violin, but plays a really mean recorder.
