Companion Stones - Current Project
Companion Stones, a project for the Derbyshire moorlands, explores the heritage of the 18th century guide stoops and proposes a set of twelve companion stones to be created by poets, artists and masons of the Peak. Like the guide stoops, these stones will bear an inscription, directions to an uncertain future. The stones will be exhibited on the Derbyshire moorlands and supporting and promotional material will make it accessible to a wide range of Peak District residents and visitors.

We are looking for expressions of interest from artists and poets who would like to propose work for the Companion Stones. Click here to download further information - closing date for submissions is 9 May 2008.

're:place' - Contemporary Site-specific Art Commissions in Derbyshire
Arts in the Peak has been commissioned to explore the potential for an ongoing programme of site-specific contemporary visual art commissions across Derbyshire and the Peak. As part of this process there has been extensive consultation with artists to elicit their responses to sites of interest to them in Derbyshire, and to Derbyshire as a site itself. Artists were invited to submit initial proposals for new site-specific work, and in August 2007 twelve of these artists were awarded bursaries to develop their proposals further. Click here for further information.

East Midlands Creative Lab, June 2006 - March 2007
East Midlands Creative Lab was developed through a partnership between the Helen Storey Foundation, Creative Partnerships BAM, Derby, Leicester and Nottingham, Arts Council England East Midlands, Derby City Council, Derbyshire County Council, University of Derby and was delivered by Arts in the Peak. Click here for further information.

Owl Project, May 2007
Arts in the Peak collaborated with Sheffield's Lovebytes festival to host a residency by Owl Projects at Edale Visitors Centre, where they produced 'Sound Chair'. Owl Project member Steve Symmons combined a traditional pole lathe with software, sensors and switches to shape sounds like tones, glitches and beats. Once exhibited, audience members were able sit on the chair and access the audio work composed during its construction, via an embedded MP3 player. Click here for further information.

Bakewell Arts Festival Visual Arts Trail, August 2007
Arts in the Peak was invited to create a trail of contemporary artworks throughout Bakewell. Work by Tony Kemplen was installed at Old House Museum, Jo Berry's spectacular lightboxes were installed in All Saint's Church, Rob Vale's video piece 'Solace' was installed in Granby Arcade, Charles Monkhouse and Sallyann Carlin's 'Simultaneous Contrast' in Bath Gardens, and both Owl Project's 'Sound Chair' and Jacob Cartwright, Nick Jordan and Stephen McNeilly's film in the Tourist Information Centre.
